The gold discovery in Sutter’s Mill in Coloma, California on January 24, 1848 triggered the economic upheaval in California. Today there still lies a remnant of the particular gold rush that happened more than a century ago. During the rush, the sleepy town of California turned into a bustling place with migrants from all over the US and nearby countries came over to try their luck in mining for gold. This discovery of gold resulted to the economic transformation in California and in all of the US. The gold rush gave way to an increased population in California, especially in the gold mining areas Sacramento. California gold rush attracted merchants and traders who started opening shops for commerce and the port of San Francisco also started to develop because of traders using the port to bring in goods and supplies for the miners. Sacramento or Embarcadero as the place was first named only had a population of 150 people but rapidly rose to about 34,000 because of the gold rush. Even local and out of town laborers joined the rush not only to find gold but to seek better wages from big banks from the east that started investing in gold mining activities. This has led to the employment of thousands of laborers to mine for the investors. Aside from gold, California was full of fertile land that was just waiting to be tilled and farmed. These developments forced the US Government to start multi million dollars infrastructure projects and mass transportation systems such as the transcontinental railroad that led to California. The increase in population, the development of agriculture and transportation facilitated the admittance of California in the Union in 1850 making it the 31st state. This move was very beneficial to the growth of the US economy. Today one of the gold rush remnants is a mining company that up to this day is very active in gold mining and providing resort activities and Gold mining adventures California to visitors and tourists who come to the place. The company is Roaring Camp Gold Mining Co.; one of the few existing and active mining company built during the gold rush. However, this mining site has gone into a very constructive makeover because besides being an active mining camp, owners have turned the camp into a one of a kind tourist spot that offers guided gold mining tours California to local and foreign visitors. The camp provides tourists a way to learn the basics of gold mining and would go as far as to teach and have these visitors experience the excitement on how to manually pan for gold.
