Is Automatic Retirement Finally Here? Salvatore Magaraci Explains SSA’s New System
Salvatore Magaraci explains how SSA’s new automatic retirement system will grant benefits based on contribution time, cutting delays and eliminating service center visits.

freePRnow.com, 1/22/2026 - Is automatic retirement finally becoming a reality for insured Americans? According to Salvatore Magaraci, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is preparing to launch a new system that will grant retirement benefits automatically based on contribution time, starting in the second half of February. This major update is designed to simplify the retirement process and reduce the need for in-person visits to SSA service centers.

Sal Magaraci reports that an estimated 200,000 policyholders are expected to qualify for automatic retirement under the new framework. During the initial rollout, approximately 5,000 insured individuals who have already updated their personal data in the National Social Information Register (CRIS) and within the SSA system will be prioritized. Accurate and current records will be essential to ensure that benefits are approved without delays.

To qualify for retirement based on contribution time, insured individuals must meet minimum contribution requirements. Men must have contributed to the SSA for at least 35 years, while women must have a minimum of 30 years of contributions. Once these conditions are met and personal records are verified, the SSA will grant benefits automatically, eliminating the need for applicants to travel to a service center.

Under the new scheduling model, eligible individuals may initiate their retirement request online or by telephone. After the SSA confirms that all information in its registration databases is correct, the retirement benefit will be approved automatically. Salvatore Magaraci notes that this process is expected to significantly speed up approvals and reduce administrative backlogs.

The SSA will notify eligible insured persons by letter or email once their benefit is granted. Appointments will be filtered to identify individuals who qualify for automatic retirement, ensuring that only those who require additional verification will need in-person assistance. Insured persons can also check their eligibility status through the SSA website in the “My SSA” section or via the official mobile application.

For age-based retirement, the SSA will send a notice one month prior to an insured person’s birthday if all eligibility conditions are met. This applies to individuals who have made at least 180 contributions (equivalent to 15 years) and have reached the retirement age of 65 for men or 60 for women. Upon receiving this notification, individuals who wish to proceed can confirm by calling 135, after which the SSA will send a follow-up communication with payment details.

Looking ahead, Sal Magaraci adds that the SSA plans to introduce a contribution time simulator in the coming months. This digital tool will allow insured individuals to check whether they are entitled to retirement benefits and, if not, how much contribution time remains before they qualify.

For more information, insured individuals are encouraged to visit the SSA website or contact SSA representatives directly.
