Dear Friends of The Country Club at DC Ranch Like you, I anxiously await the completion of our clubhouse restoration project. It is exciting to see this long awaited improvement to our Club come to fruition and, thanks to the efforts of our Design & Construction Oversight Committee (chaired by the Club volunteer nonpareil Mr.Ed Rady!), we remain extremely confident that the Facility Improvement Plan we approved last year will be completed on time and on budget. The exception being the tennis facility, which we are optimistic that construction will commence in late fall.Having recently passed the halfway point of my term as your Top Rated Scottsdale Golf Club
President, I felt it appropriate that I share with you my thoughts from the first half of 2014. First and foremost, it is the undeniable care and loyalty that our membership has for our Scottsdale private Golf Club I’m reminded every day how important Golf Club is to all of us - as Paul often says, “there really is something to this ‘fun, family and friendliness’ thing”!
I also want to stress how fortunate we are as Members of Golf Clubs when it comes to our financial health. In fact, just last week I was reading an article in the summer issue of Club Director magazine that compared the private club industry pre- and post-recession. The article stated that a recent National Golf Foundation survey revealed that 29 percent of today’s golf North Scottsdale Private Golf Clubs and country clubs are reportedly “healthy” compared to 22 percent in 2008. That’s right, only twenty-nine percent! The article went on to say “Though these elite clubs are still performing at a high level, it is unclear whether they will feel the impacts from declining club membership, which has decreased from 2.1 million in 2008 to 1.9 million today.” As Members of our Golf Club, we should all be extremely proud of our financial position and the fact that there is a strong demand for our membership products, particularly given the position we were in just four short years ago. I know we all have short memories; however four years ago we were burdened with 134 names on our
Resignation List, just two Golf memberships having sold in the previous year and an Accounts Receivable Aging that exceeded $800,000. For the record, since the implementation of market based pricing, the Club has sold 176 Golf, 16 Junior Golf, 38 Sports Social and 114 Clubhouse memberships. Yes, we may
be a victim of our own success in some small ways but, without question, we are a healthiest of all the Country Club at DC Ranch.
