A piece of metal has to be provided a protective coating from weather and foreign elements like moisture and dust that can eat out its surface and make it weak. “Powder coating is the only process of protective metals from harmful elements. A powder is formed of elements that can protect a metallic surface. The powder is then sprayed on the metal that is to be coated and the powder coated metal is heated so that the powder melts and take shaped of a thin film”, said a powder coating expert.
Advantage of powder coat is it is environment friendly as it contains no toxic substances like regular paints have. Coating powder is easier than coating paint as powder is sprayed with a spray gun and the waste material can be collected for future use. But paint droppings can’t be used again. The droppings can spoil floor and also they are harmful for environment.
A piece of metal can be coated with hands. There is no difficulty in coating a piece of metal with a spray gun. The coater would first prepare the metal for coating and then spray it with the protective powder. The coater would spray the protective powder liberally all over the metallic surface as the powder that drops down can be used again.
“Manual metal finishing coating is called batch-type coating. The process involves dealing every piece of metal individually. It is suitable for big machines and other off dimensional products. But if there are a number of similar size products for coating then automatic system is used”, added the expert.
In automatic coating, the pieces of metals are lined up before machines that are capable of cleaning and coating metals with powder. The machines clean and powder coat the pieces of metals in a jiffy and save time. On the other hand, batch-type coating consumes much time.
Bath-system metal finishing coating is the best as it is manual. The coater can see whether the metal in question has received powder all over or there are grey patches on the metallic surface.
